How streaks and day counters work in Koi

Last updated: May 1, 2026

Your day counter is the total number of days you've shown up in Koi. Every day you open the app and log activity, the counter goes up by one.

It is not a "current streak" stat that resets when you miss a day. It is not a "best ever" record. It is simply: how many days have you been here.

Streaks never end. They only pause.

If you miss a day, nothing breaks. Your counter doesn't reset. Your koi don't get sad. Nothing turns red.

The counter pauses on the days you don't open Koi, and starts moving again the next time you do.

This is intentional. Most habit trackers punish missed days with broken streaks, lost progress, or guilt-tripping notifications. Koi doesn't. Showing up matters more than showing up perfectly.

Why this works

It works because this are real habits the ones that stick for years. The ones that survived missed days. You still brush your teeth even if you fall asleep on the couch one night. You don't restart counting from one.

By treating consistency as cumulative instead of fragile, Koi rewards you for the only thing that actually matters: coming back. The counter going from 47 to 48 after a missed week feels exactly like it should. You are still doing this, even when life got in the way.

What you'll see in the app

Open Koi and your day counter is visible at the top of your sidebar.
